We are heading towards the tail end of winter now. I haven't done much work over the last couple of months, just monitoring how the repairs are faring during the winter rains. Luckily we haven't had any major deluges, and it appears the sandbagging works have held up beautifully. One area I have been working is in the garden bed along the fence down by the creek, which was completely overgrown. Here are some pictures :)
The garden bed is completely overgrown, but there are apparently some Hydrangeas hiding in here, as well as some Clivias. Let's take a look!
The garden bed is full of Wandering Jew. This is a very difficult plant to get rid of - it is easy enough to pull out, but it tends to leave stems and roots that sprout again. I won't use any type of poison because we are so close to the creek, so I am going to have to keep on top of weeding it out by hand.
A couple of healthy looking Clivias here, and a couple of sad looking Hydrangeas. They were completely buried in the Wandering Jew, so I have pruned them back and I am hoping that they will start to sprout and come back again.
One week after pruning, and there are plenty of new green buds appearing :) I am hoping that during spring these will pick up and get some new healthy growth going.
A couple of pics after this weekends work. I have planted a couple of Cyclamen that I have had languishing in pots for a while, I hope they will do well here. I am pleased with how the Hydrangeas are starting to come back after only a week of me clearing the bed - with any luck they will survive and thrive :) I also found a small Elephant Ear plant hiding under the overgrowth.
