A couple of the big trees on the block have needed some attention for a while now. We have recently had the old shed removed, and are planning to have a newer, bigger one put up, so while there is better access to the block we took the opportunity to have the tree surgeon out to do some much needed pruning :)
This is our tassie blue gum. Mum planted him just over 50 years ago, at the time he was tube stock and only about 3 inches tall. He has grown quite a bit since then - likely because he has his feet in the creek. The tree surgeon said he was healthy, but several of the larger branches had grown out a fair distance and were at risk of breaking and falling. He definitely was overdue for a good pruning!
About halfway through his haircut - they still have some work to do on the right hand side, but he is looking more balanced and happy.
A lemon scented gum - planted a the same time as the Tassie blue gum. This lovely lady had several large branches overhanging the granny flat (aka Ma and Da's cottage), which needed to be carefully removed - they are using ropes and a cherry picker, carefully lowering the big branches so they don't fall on the cottage!
One of the tree surgeons took a climb up to remove some of the smaller, higher branches.
